I’m sure you’ve all heard about the various food restrictions that come along with pregnancy. No sushi, no deli meats, no alcohol… the list goes on. So, can you have prosciutto when pregnant?\n\n

The answer is unfortunately, no. Prosciutto is a type of dry-cured ham that is typically thinly sliced and served as an appetizer. It is made from the hind leg of a pig or wild boar and is cured with salt, spices, and air.\n\n

While prosciutto may be delicious, the curing process means that it is high in sodium and nitrates. These are both things that you want to avoid when pregnant as they can increase your risk for dehydration and high blood pressure. So, while you may be tempted to indulge in a slice or two of prosciutto, it’s best to err on the side of caution and avoid it altogether. <\/p>\n \n
