A common misconception is that water cannot be burned. However, water can in fact be burned, though it requires a very high temperature to do so. At around 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit, water will start to break down into its component atoms, hydrogen and oxygen.

If the temperature is increased even further, to around 4,500 degrees Fahrenheit, the oxygen and hydrogen atoms will combine to form a new molecule, called ozone. <\/p>\n \n
