If you need to euthanize a fish, and don’t have access to clove oil or another recommended euthanasia solution, you can use a very small amount of baking soda. Baking soda will cause the fish to go into cardiac arrest, and death will occur within a few minutes. It’s important to use only a tiny amount of baking soda, as too much will cause the fish to suffer.

To euthanize a fish with baking soda, first make sure that the fish is in a small container of water. Then, using a clean syringe or eyedropper, add 1\/4 teaspoon of baking soda to the water. Stir the water gently to make sure the baking soda is fully dissolved.

Place the fish in the water, and wait for it to become still. This usually takes less than 5 minutes. Once the fish is deceased, you can dispose of it in whatever manner you wish. <\/p>\n \n
