It’s always a bummer when you buy a head of lettuce, only to have it wilt and go bad a few days later. But there’s no need to despair! With a little care, you can keep your romaine fresh and crisp for up to two weeks.

Here’s how:\n\nChoose heads of lettuce that are firm and free of browning or bruising. Avoid any with wilted leaves.\n\n

When you get home, trim off the bottom inch or so of the stem (this is where most of the bitterness lives) and store the lettuce in a clean, dry container lined with paper towels.<\/p>\n \n
